Artist's Comments

PLEASE COMMENT BEFORE YOU FAVORITE. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY YOU LIKE THE PIECE.
---------------------------------------
If you've been paying attention, you'd know I already tried to post this before (but the picture sucked so I removed it). :P
So, after seeing feather paintings from various artists like =Nambroth, ~Novawuff, etc. I decided to try my hand at feather painting. Of course, I don't have any feathers laying around.... but fortunately for me, my birds were molting. This particular feather was one of the higher quality ones that fell out.

I really didn't have any idea as to what I shouold do for the subject, so I decided "What the heck?" and just drew my bird on there. Funny thing is that, instead of drawing the bird that donated the feather, I drew my other bird. Hehe.

The original is actually very small. The width of the feather is only .75 inches wide (2 cm) and the length.... wasn't measured. ;>>

Thanks to =Nambroth for telling me to scan the feather rather than take a digi. picture of it. Worked much, much better. :D

Oh, and I don't want critiques on this. Sorry but it's my first feather painting and I know there are a ton of errors. >.>

Lol he looks angry. This kind of thing is really cool. Great job, especially for a first try! If you'd done the bird who gave the feather, wouldn't he just blend in with his own plumage? I like the contrast between the yellow and the black.
:iconpastiche-x:
He looks angry? Well, that's wonderful news. Olive is almost always angry at something so I've totally captured his personality. :D
Well, technically, both the birds are -about- the same in terms of coloration. The bird drawn here is a bit lighter/brighter than the other one so in that sense he does stand out more. hehe.

Thanks. I like how the yellow stands out against hte black as well.

xD He does look like he's plotting machinations. Look out! That whiff behind you could've been a murder weapon! D:

Feather painting seems hard! I think the shading on the right side turned out really nicely, and I do appreciate the irony of painting another bird on the donor bird's feather.

Don't try to keep thinking pessimistic thoughts. You will run out.

Avatar by =Foxchibi. She's pretty cool like that.

if you're not mad..."

Aww, nice one! (It's also nice to know that some people has cockatiels, they are just so cute). I really think you did great job with this one, I think that feather painting isn't so easy... Maybe I too should try it some day (I have LOTS of feathers I've collected when my 'tiels have moulted, but haven't found any use for them yet...)

I'm back on the battlefields
I'm still standing,
I'm facing my enemies
and I'll rise, always, again...

You can hurt me, but you will never take me down...

This is just an unusual form of art. You dont see many people putting art onto detached animal parts, just making the piece itself "art" if that makes any sense.

That's really neat!
I can't draw birds. xP
What type of bird is yours? o: *curious*
:iconpastiche-x:
Ah, no. Olive is too damn fat and slow to really sneak up on anyone. D; He DOES walk like a penguin, though. It makes me lawl.

Even more irony: it's actually easier than painting on CANVAS. You'd be surprised how much paint a feather can accept. I'd go through three-five warped pieces of paper to hold the same amount on my normal watercolor paper. XD
(The other bird didn't mind... I guess. Well, he did want to chew at it while I was working on it.... maybe that was his way of telling me something? >.> )

They're both cockatiels.

Awww, don't say that. Birds really aren't that hard to draw, you just have to practice drawing them from photos and such.
